Weaving

Weave 5 rows Superior and 1 row Gioiello; repeat for the entire length of the warp. Carry the Gioiello up the selvedges. This will give a scalloped look to the edges, which are left untouched in the final finishing and assembly. Use a light, even beat and mind your selvedges—they’re both going to show. You want this fabric to be quite open. Check the fabric often to make sure your beat remains consistently at 12 ppi.

Fabric finishing

Secure ends of weaving with overhand knots. Fill a sink with hot water and Dawn detergent. Submerge the fabric in the water and let it soak for about 30 minutes. Agitate by hand, squeezing, not wringing, the fabric to full it. Rinse in warm water. Place the fabric in the dryer with a couple of towels. Use the hottest setting and check often to monitor progress. When sufficiently fulled, remove the fabric from the dryer and lay it flat to dry. Steam-press using a press cloth and lots of steam and pressure.
