Begin by making a stitch the length desired, but do not pull through.

Wrap the ribbon evenly around the tip of the needle for the length of the stitch.

Pull the needle through the wraps.

Sink the needle at the beginning of the stitch and give a little tug to settle the wraps in place.

The small, white flowers are worked in Bullion stitch. 7 x 2-1/4 in.

Weaving and Woven Rose

Silk ribbons lend themselves perfectly to weaving. Use weaving to create solid shapes such as baskets. Or, with either thread or ribbon, create spokes, and then weave around the spokes in a circular format to make roses.

To make a solid shape, first make long Straight stitches side by side. Thread a second ribbon and weave through the Straight stitches, bringing the needle to the back at the end of each row.

To make a rose, using embroidery thread or ribbon, make five spokes or any uneven number of Straight stitches, ending at the center. Fasten on with ribbon and come up at the center. Weave around from the center outward until the spokes are filled in.
