Some reusable bags are made out of cotton. This seems like a better choice for the environment. According to Tyler, though, growing cotton uses a lot of water and pesticides that can be harmful to humans and animals, so they might actually be worse for the environment than plastic bags.

Too Hard to

RECYCLE

Many people think plastic bags are too useful to ban. These people often say it’s fine to keep using them as long as they’re recycled properly. However, people who support a ban point out that most bags aren’t actually recycled even though they could be.

Generally, you can’t throw plastic bags in the recycling bin because they’re so thin they can break machines at recycling centers. Instead, they need to be cleaned, dried, and dropped off at a grocery store to be taken to special bag recycling centers. Some people think this is too much work, so they throw the bags in the garbage.

Know the Facts!

Milk jugs and plastic bags are made out of the same type of plastic. However, milk jugs don’t get tangled in machines the way bags do, so they can generally be collected with other things to be recycled.
