Trio Concerto
Eva Lefoy
Casi Carson narrowed her eyes at the concert poster taped to the front door of the recital hall and grit her teeth. “No fucking way.”
After a one hour drive to get to the Alpine Lodges Resort two hours early and snag a good parking spot, she’d made a horrible mistake. She’d come a day early. The Beethoven trio wasn’t playing until tomorrow.
A deep sigh sped out her mouth as she raised her hand to a do face-palm. Of all the freaking idiotic things to do, not double-checking the date on her ticket had to be in the top ten. She’d wasted time, money and effort to get there early and now, unless she wanted to camp out until tomorrow, she might as well turn around and go home. Both hands slapped her thighs. “Great, just great.”
Spinning around, she intended to march back to her car and leave, but the quiet sounds of the forest soothed her nerves. Her steps slowed. Since she was here and it wasn’t crowded, she might as well take the time to explore. Maybe she could finally figure out the place’s insane parking layout, etch a map of it in her mind so she’d never get lost again. Striding with purpose, she walked to the edge of the parking lot and over the tiny footbridge to the next one.
Along the way, she listened to the twittering bird calls and the sounds of traffic carrying from the road not that far away. Part of her liked the idea of being close to civilization. Part of her wanted to venture even further away. Turning right, she rambled along a dirt trail circling the concert building. She could still see the building if she turned her head. Knowing she wasn’t lost, she sped along the path eager to discover where it ended.
Behind the structure, the trail looped farther away from the parking lot, taking her deeper into the woods, separated from the path by a small grassy area. Sunlight streamed down, highlighting the vibrant greens and golden yellows of the foliage, and the warmth made her stop and linger. It was then a sound startled her. At first, she thought someone was in pain and prepared to run after them, but they weren’t.
Soft repeated moans of erotic pleasure barely reached her ears though she could pinpoint their direction as straight ahead and to the right. If she stayed on the same trail, she’d pass their source in just a few moments. The woman’s breathy wails grew louder, and Casi’s face heated. She looked back the way she’d come. There was no one behind her. She could simply return, get in her car and leave, never telling anyone about this. But the sounds enticed her. In the languid heat of the late afternoon her sense of propriety melted, leaving curiosity behind. Feeling naughty, she tip-toed forward.
When she was a teen, she’d tip-toed into her older brother’s bedroom while he slept to borrow his dirty magazines. She’d always been interested in what boys liked, in figuring out what they saw in women.
