How do I do the ‘squeeze’ and ‘stop start’ techniques?

Q What can I do to make myself last longer? Are there any techniques that I can try which will help me stay in control? I’ve tried thinking of off-putting things and counting backward but it doesn’t work. What do you think of the squeeze and ‘stop-start’ technique?

A The ‘stop-start’ technique (explained above in the ‘She hates me stopping all the time’ question) works well as a training aid during masturbation. Not so well during sex with your partner. Guys say it interferes with their enjoyment having to stop all the time – and women aren’t too keen on that either.

Men also don’t like doing it with new partners who are confused why they keep hitting the pause button, just when it’s getting to the good bit. It transforms sex from something that was fun into something that now requires quite a lot of effort. I favour the peaking technique, explained in the next question, which is similar but less hassle.

I feel the same about the ‘squeeze’ technique. This involves your partner placing their thumb on one side of the penis and their index and middle finger on the other side and squeezing firmly when you feel you’re about to ejaculate.

In theory, this will stop you having an orgasm. Emphasis on in theory. In practise, by the time you’ve pulled out, she’s fiddled about positioning her fingers and thumbs and squeezed, the horse has often bolted.

Instead, use the ‘squeeze’ technique this way:
