Know Your Role

If you find that sex in your marriage is becoming monotonous, or dulled with routine, try switching the roles up a bit. You can start with role-playing, which allows you and your partner to open yourself up to the fantasies that you have always wanted to try but maybe were too shy to attempt before. Dressing up and pretending to be someone or something else frees up your inhibitions, and allows you to explore your inner desires while taking the heat of embarrassment off of yourself for a bit.

Not to mention, dressing up is fun. Why did we do it on Halloween as children? Because roleplaying adds excitement, right in the middle of the boring and mundane. The only difference as adults is that, the costumes have changed a bit, and the candy waiting for us is much sweeter. And, well, the goal here is to keep our spouses from going door-to-door looking elsewhere for that candy.

There are many different roleplaying scenarios that you can explore with your partner. That is the beauty of roleplaying. Whatever the two of you may be in to, there is going to be something out there to be found just for you. Approach the subject with your partner, and then have fun learning what kind of fun things they would be into. It’s a journey the two of you can take together, and the planning process itself can be used as a bonding experience.

One of the most popular roleplaying categories is putting one person in the role of the dominant, and the other in the role of the submissive. Most people, who hear the words dominant and submissive, think of whips and chains and all sorts of items that constitute as freaky and exciting. However, there are many different levels to the dominant and submissive roles, and many different roleplaying scenarios that fall under this category.

You can take the scenario to the extreme (just make sure that your partner is okay with it, and to first set down some ground rules), or you can tone it down while still playing your roles. Many scenarios make up the category of dominant and submissive, and they don’t always have to fall under BDSM, or have to involve bondage. Any scenario that involves one person in charge will do.
