Making the Units

All seam allowances are ¼˝ unless otherwise noted. Follow the arrows for the pressing direction.

Creating Unit A

1. Make a four-patch unit of gray 4½˝ × 4½˝ squares by sewing 2 pairs of gray squares right sides together. Press the seam allowances in alternate directions.

2. Stitch the 2 pairs together, allowing the seam allowances to nest. Press the seam allowance as shown. Make 16.

3. Set aside 2 four-patch units and label them unit A. These units belong in the upper right and lower left corners of the quilt.

4. You will use the other 14 gray four-patch units to create units B and C.

Creating Unit B

1. Using 2 of the four-patch units, add a gray 4½˝ × 4½˝ square to both sides of each four-patch unit. Press the seams as shown. Label these unit B.
