Neutral feelings don’t sound very sexy though, right? When you meet someone, there is an expectation that you will have strong feelings in one direction or another. That you will get some sign that this person is either right or wrong for you—and we all often rely on our feelings as that sign. However, those polarized feelings can often be misleading or fleeting. They can also drive you to automatically react in one kind of patterned way. Neutral feelings have less of a hold on you, and that makes it possible for you to see the person you are with as a whole person instead of as a trigger for positive or negative feelings. This is a desired state of being that, with much practice, can be summoned at your will. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves! We can start with some simple exercises to help you identify what kind of feelings you are having.
