When Rent closed in September (bumped later from their previously announced June closing), I literally threw a funeral at my house where my friends and I wore all black and watched the movie. I made an invitation using the same stencil font that said something along the lines of ‘dearly beloved, we gather here to say our goodbyes…’ etc, and then ‘in honor of the death of Rent, a not-so-impromptu salon will commence at Ali’s house on September 7th, 2008.’ We had uniforms, but we wore some kind of black accessory to school the next day, and I wore my Rent dog tag as well.”
