Phrases
A phrase is a group of words that do not make a complete thought or a clause. They are parts of sentences or clauses. Phrases can be used as nouns, adjectives, or adverbs. A phrase does not contain both a subject and a verb.
Prepositional Phrases
A prepositional phrase shows the relationship between a word in the sentence and the object of the preposition. The object of the preposition is a noun that follows the preposition.
The orange pillows are on the couch.
On is the preposition, and couch is the object of the preposition.
She brought her friend with the nice car.
With is the preposition, and car is the object of the preposition. Here are some common prepositions:
