Tin tables are lightweight and have a flat surface that makes an ideal base for a mosaic. My tin table is 60 cm in diameter, and I bought it at a late summer sale. Just like with the china, it might be a good idea to look for tables at flea markets and thrift shops.

1 With a bolt cutter, cut the porcelain into large, rough pieces.

2 Cut these into small, irregular pieces and polish the jagged edges with mosaic pliers.

3 Trace the shape of the tabletop onto a sheet of plywood. Begin by laying out a border of white mosaic squares along the edge of the marked circle. The smooth edge will soften the appearance and will keep the mosaic pattern in place. Piece together the cut porcelain into a lovely mosaic.
