This is the Striped Mountain that you are looking for.

Elevation: 5,179 feet

GPS: N38 12.082' / W111 05.827'

Best seasons: Late spring and fall

Land manager: BLM

Materials: Coprolites, petrified wood

Tools: Rock hammer, digging tools

Vehicle: Four-wheel-drive

Special attraction: Lake Powell

Finding the site: From the intersection of UT 24 and UT 95 in Hanksville, drive south on UT 95 for 20.4 miles to a dirt road going right. Follow this road for 3.7 miles to a fork, ignoring a fork going right at 1.4 miles. Go right at the fork and continue 0.6 mile. There is a BLM sign and a road going right. Keep left and proceed for 3 miles. This is a very rough road, and four-wheel drive is a must. At the 3-mile point, you will see a small red hill just off the road to your right and a large red-and-purple-striped hill just to the south on your right. Park on the flat, or drive between the hills and park on the flat.
