The Augmented Triad

The augmented triad is not used as often as are the other three types. A common role for the augmented triad is as an altered tonic chord in major keys. In such a role, it will be positioned between the tonic and the subdominant or between the tonic and the leading tone seventh (on the way to the dominant seventh chord). Here are those two uses:
