Kreeft goes on to note that the phrase having sex is a counterfeit that has only recently been minted. A nun has sex because she is a female, not because she had a fling. This linguistic slight of mind has been used in our generation to trivialize sex as merely what we do, as opposed to treating sex as what we are. In our culture we have reduced having sex, or making love, to “a thing of surfaces and external feeling rather than of personality and internal feeling. Thus even masturbation is called ‘having sex,’ though it is exactly the opposite: a denial of real relationship with the other sex.”4

The foremost reason we can say with certainty that sex will exist after the resurrection is that sex is not merely a word that describes an exotic experience; it is what we are by essence. In the beginning, God created us “male and female” (Genesis 1:27), and that is likely how it always will be.5
