Models of Discipleship in Acts

SO FAR, WE HAVE PRIMARILY FOCUSED on Luke’s Gospel. Let us now examine the Acts of the Apostles to determine its bearing on the subject of Luke’s wealth ethics.

For some interpretations of Luke’s wealth ethics, Acts has been like a wrench in the works for two reasons:

1. In the first half of Acts, it looks like the Jerusalem community is practicing some sort of Christian socialism.

2. In the second half of Acts, the subject of money gets far less attention; this makes some scholars conclude that, even though wealth ethics may have been a hobby horse for Jesus, it isn’t such a big deal for Luke.
