Chapter 11

BLAKE

As I stare into her green gaze, my heart’s pounding wildly in my chest as I wait for her answer. Will she believe me about what happened 10 years ago or will she still feel that I betrayed her?

The moment she said she believed me I felt like a weight I’ve been carrying around for so long was suddenly removed from my shoulders and I can breathe again. To test out the feeling I close my eyes and take a deep breath in. I can’t remember the last time I felt so light and I open my eyes again to see her with tears in hers.

“Oh my God, Blake. I’m so sorry,” she says as tears start to stream down her face.

I reach over to take her hand and gently pull her up and over onto my lap where I wrap her up in my arms and hold her like I’ve wanted to do forever. She cries against my chest and I run a hand down her hair and breathe in the scent of her. My dick jumps in my pants as soon as she’s sitting on it and I mentally tell it to sit the fuck down. Now is not the time!.

Gidget also decides this is a good time to investigate what’s going on with her mom so she jumps up onto Shiv’s now empty chair and is barking at both of us.

Shiv snorts out a laugh and lifts her head up from my now soaked chest and gives me a weak smile. I give her an answering one as I try to think of something to say. “Can we have makeup sex, now?” doesn’t seem appropriate, somehow.

“Let me just take her outside and grab a tissue. I’ll be right back. Don’t go anywhere, Blake, we aren’t done.”

As she leaves the kitchen, a wide grin splits my face in two and just like that, for the first time in years, I have more hope for the future than I know what to do with.

Do I know what to do with Shiv Kelly when she returns, though? Abso-fucking-lutely.

When Shiv comes back into the kitchen she looks slightly less upset than she was earlier and I watch her for any indication as to what she’s thinking or feeling.

“So, what do we do about this whole thing? Do we just let Bobby and Sabrina have a free pass on their behavior?” she says as she fills glasses with water from the sink. As she hands one to me she adds “They fucked up numerous lives with their scheming and yet they get to live their lives as if they didn’t? Screw that. That bitch is still up to her pathetic bitchy ways. Case in point is how she behaved at the Lake yesterday. And what about him? How does he get to be the football coach after pulling that shit? You left town because of them!”

She’s pacing and waving her hands around as she rants and if I wasn’t already in love with her, I would be now as she comes to my defense.
