Chapter Three

Sonja had no problem sleeping after being so thoroughly fucked by Pacal. The next morning, when she awoke, she was alone in his room. It was still dim, the fire the only light. Her body twitched in protest as she tried to move. Grinning with the memory, she knew she’d probably be walking funny this morning. Her gut twinged.

Correction. I’ll be walking funny for at least a week. Bless you, Simon, Pacal more than makes up for the bugs.

Fresh clothes were laid out on the end of the bed, next to a tray of food. She took a bite of the fresh fruit as she dressed. Her outfit this morning was the same as the night before, only there was a jacket-like robe to go over the gown. The jacket covered her sides from view. After breakfast, she went to her pack. The letter was still there. She picked it up and slid it into her gown, using the belt to keep it secure against her hip.

It wasn’t too hard to find her way to the main stone chamber. She expected to find some remnants of a party the night before. There was nothing. Pacal wasn’t even there. Walking outside, she looked for him. The blue Grafowk was perched outside. She began to stretch when it flew and landed on her forearm.

“Why hello, friend,” she said, giggling in surprise. “I’m sorry. I don’t have any food today.”

The bird didn’t seem to mind. He walked his way up her arm to perch on her shoulder. She walked over the platform outside, refusing to go down the long row of steps. If she went down, she’d only have to walk back up and her body was too sore from Pacal’s penetrating touch to make the trip.

She moved around the pyramid, looking down over the abandoned village. There weren’t signs of anyone, just abandoned buildings, statues and carvings.

“He’s taken to you.”

Sonja turned, almost feeling shy. Pacal was behind her. She wished she could see his face to know if he smiled at her.

“I was looking for you,” she admitted.

“Were you? I was with the others. I told them of your visit.” Pacal looked at the bird. He again wore the headdress. The bird squawked and flew away.

“You did?” Sonja blushed. “What did you say?”

“That you have come with a message,” he said. “And that you offered to make love to me.”

“Oh.” Sonja wanted to throw herself off the side of the temple. He said it so matter-of-fact.

“They were happy.”

Great. They’re happy you’re getting laid.

“Oh,” she said again, unable to think of anything better.

“Are you hungry? They have brought food.” Pacal reached his hand as if to touch her. He held back, hand suspended in air.

“They’re waiting? Inside?”

Oh, how embarrassing!

Hi, everyone, I’m the slut who slept with your temple guy on the first night. How ya doin’?

“Yes, they are always inside,” he said. “Only I come out.”

“Am I to meet them?”

“No, but perhaps someday.”

Sonja didn’t take his hand. She wondered if he was a little crazy.
