Thankfully, if you do it right, nearly anybody can afford the annual two weeks a year in the field. But there are two key expenses one must budget for. One that is easily affordable and another that presents a problem for the particularly younger Reconnaissance Men:

Operational expenses and a car.

“No Man With a Good Car Needs to Be Justified”

Operational expenses, in all honesty, present no real challenge to becoming a Reconnaissance Man. Assuming you drive 5,000 miles each trip you can expect to spend around $450 on gas. If you eat at a grocery store, $150 is more than enough to feed your gullet for two weeks. Even a 15 year old can work up that money while living at home rent free. The real issue is the car as it not only costs a lot of money to buy one, but people 21 and under (in some states, 25) can’t legally rent one. So, unless your parents are going to be extra charitable and let you drive their car, most 20 year olds and younger are going to have to buy their own car.
