Chapter Eight

* Sarah *

Ethan left ten minutes ago, and my thoughts are still all over the place. If not for Tom’s ill-timed phone call, tonight would have gone in an entirely different direction. But instead of falling into bed together, we connected on a much deeper level.

Before our interruption, I’d wanted to make sure we were on the same page. That it wouldn’t just be a onetime thing ending in disappointment. Rather than placate me with potentially empty promises, he put himself on the line.

He shared his biggest secret.

It was the one thing he should have never shared with any outsider, especially not a reporter. The one thing that could destroy Byron, the show, and everything he and the rest of the crew had worked for.

And once he did that, he suggested we pick things up tomorrow, over dinner. Like a proper gentleman. I’m weak in the knees even now, just thinking about it.

Tomorrow evening, my article will be done and my time at Pinewood almost over. I’ll have nothing else to think about except the two of us and where we’re headed.

We’ll go on a real date, not whatever this was turning into.

And although my body is reeling from all the sensations and desires our make-out session inspired in me, I can’t stop grinning. That means we are on the same page. He’s not just trying to get in my pants. Because despite the interruption, that’s exactly how tonight would have ended. Our chemistry is too intense and my willpower too weak.

If he’s willing to take his time, that means he’s as invested as I am. And that’s why he told me everything. It’s all so much to digest.

Byron Ainsworth is a fake.

I’m not even surprised, really, because he seemed pretty damn fake in every way already. What shocks me more is that Ethan let it happen, even orchestrated the entire thing from the start. For what? So he can get shouted at on set? So he has to lie to anyone who comes along, maybe even himself?

The crew, of course, know better, because Byron so obviously hasn’t got the required talent or skills in the kitchen. I should have realized it as well after watching the first day of shooting. The only reason I didn’t was because I’ve had my head on backwards ever since meeting Ethan… Beautiful, kind, compassionate, and oh-so-very-sexy-without-realizing-it Ethan.

But now I know. And I don’t know what to do with it all.

Unfortunately, I still have work to do. No matter how much I want to just spend the entire night reliving my time with Ethan and imagining a happy dirty ending for the both of us, I’d promised Tom a draft by morning. A write-up almost entirely about the food, so I can get our readers excited about the upcoming season and avoid lying all at the same time.

By the time I left Ethan’s kitchen earlier tonight, I had entire sections of it already forming in my head. All I have to do is put them down onto the page.
