Strategies for Building Stamina

In a fifth-grade lesson at North Star Vailsburg, Eric Diamon was strategic in helping build students' writing stamina. Eric asked students to write for a total of eight minutes on four questions, spending two minutes per question. He used a timer to support this expectation, marking the start of the timed writing task with a clear cue, “Go!” While students were writing, Eric actively circulated, ensuring that students were writing the entire time and on the right question, and gathering data to inform both revision and discussion.
