Chapter Twenty-Five

Evie. Oh gosh honey, no.”

Ash chased her now walking daughter across the floor of the cafe trying to avoid her smacking her face into the glass and wiping prints all over her sister's display.

“She’s fine hun. Let her look.”

Trish laughed, making faces at the drooling giggling baby through the display. Ash sighed and sat down in a chair close to the counter to keep an eye on the curious terror. Monster stood close to the babe guarding her.

“I spent months wanting her to walk now, all I want is two minutes where I can sit.”

Ash groaned, smiling at the nosey baby. Trish plopped a cup of steaming coffee in front of her, earning a smile in response.

“Mom always says you spend the first two years teaching them to stand up and speak and the rest of their lives telling them to sit down and shut up.”

“I have never heard mom tell any of you to sit down and shut up.”

“Nah, but I can see her point watching you chase Little Bit.”

“Little bit of terror.”

Ash made a face at her child as she looked up at her nickname. Trish grinned and rubbed her lower back as she settled beside her friend and long time sister, sipping her herbal tea and making a face at it.

“What are you drinking? It smells like the death of all our hopes and dreams put together.”

“It’s supposed to help with the random puking. Ethel gave it to me.”

“Random puking? haha if I didn't know better I'd think you were preg-”

Ash faded off as she saw the intense look on her friend's face. Happy but worried, a mesh of confusion and excitement.

“OH My God! Trish, are you trying to tell me you're pregnant?”

“Uh huh.”

Ash leapt up and wrapped her friend in an enormous hug, excitedly hopping around while doing so.

“Oh, gosh oh gosh. Evie, come here. You're going to have a cousin!”

“I was worried about telling you, it isn't long since you had Ev and after everything.”

“I have all my baby stuff she has outgrown. You’ll have to come and see what you like and when are you due? Can I throw your shower? Please? I bet mom is so excited. How long have you known? I can make you all the booties you want. I love booties, are you feeling ok? You should sit back down.”

“Ash! you're acting more insane than my hubs when I told him. Chill.” Trish laughed, patting her friend's hand.

“Of course you can throw my shower. I’m due in September.”

“Ooh, a fall baby. Names! have you decided yet?”

“Stop! I've only known for a day.”

“Sorry. Do you need help here or anything? What can I do?”

“You can be my support. You've been through this and mom is kinda just freaking out after everything with you and… Oops, I'm sorry I shouldn't.”

“You're different from me. You’ll be fine and even if things or babies go sideways, you have us and will be fine.” Ash looked over sardonically at the toddler still licking the display window and Monster, who had joined her and groaned as she scooped the babe up.
