Getting Started

Transfer the pattern to your block and carve or saw the basic shape.

Step-by-Step

1 Remove the edges. Begin knocking the sharp corners off, starting with the hat.

2 Round the body. Round the body sections of the snowman. Establish the head, the middle, and the bottom using V-cuts. I prefer a blocky, carved look for my snowmen, but feel free to smooth them out if you choose.

3 Start the scarf. Once you are happy with the overall shape of the snowman, remove some of the material on the lower section to make way for a part of the scarf. Make a deep stop cut along the line drawn for the scarf, and then remove the material to the side of that stop cut. Repeat on all three sides of the scarf.
