CHAPTER 17

Meanwhile, Q and Presley were able to calm Pres down enough for him to stress how the shit had his head fucked up because Rena told him about being pregnant three months ago and when he found out she was giving him a son, Pres was excited and mad at the same time, until she finally confessed that she only waited to tell him after she was out of the first trimester because it was the critical part of a woman’s pregnancy. Pres had forgiven her, especially when he went with her to see the doctor and she confirmed what Rena had told him.

“Man, why us? I mean, I figure since we did the shit right by getting married first, we really should be good, but now my wife won’t talk to me and to top all that off, my son gone. Man, that was my boy, my flesh and blood, bruh,” Pres said as his tears continued to flow as he paced back and forth.

Both Presley and Q felt bad because Pres was right. Both of them had their kids out of wedlock and he and Rena waited to have children after they were married and now they had to bury their only child. Neither Q nor Presley knew what to say to him because they hadn’t experienced the death of a child.

“Well, bruh, maybe the doctors could run some tests to find out what happened and then ya’ll can try again,” Q told Pres.

Pres said he doubted if Rena tried again since she was always worried about something going wrong. Just before Q was about to respond, the men noticed Rena and Nae’s aunt coming with Ryley.

“What’s up, Aunt Rosie? What ya’ll doing up here? I thought Nae said we weren’t gon’ bring Ry to see Rena right now?” Presley said. He grabbed his son from her as she walked over to Pres and hugged him.

“I guess ya’ll asses been out here this whole time because Rena has come out of shock now and she is asking for Ry. Nae just called and asked me to bring him up here,” she told them as they all headed back to Rena’s room.

Pres took Ry from Presley and held him tight. He looked deep into his eyes and for a minute he wondered if their son would have been identical to Ry since his parents were parts of sets of identical twins.

They made it to Rena’s room and Rena was talking and even laughing a little. When she noticed Pres walk in holding Ry, it melted her heart. She was hurting for her baby, but she knew she had to accept it and for some reason, she just needed to see Ry. Pres walked over to her, hoping she wouldn’t go off on him again and when she smiled at him a little, he was satisfied with that. Pres knew what she was feeling because he felt the same.

“Ma, I’m so sorry and anything that I can do to help us through this please let me know.
