3For your commitment is before my eyes;

I walk about by your truthfulness.

First, the suppliant returns to “walking” (cf. v. 1), though the verb is now hitpael (hence, “walk about”). Letting something stand before your eyes suggests paying attention to it and approving of it (e.g., 5:5 [6]; 36:1 [2]; 101:3, 7). Yhwh’s *commitment is thus an inspiration, or a summons to a responsive commitment. The second colon makes the point more specific. Having God’s commitment before the eyes indicates the way the suppliant goes about that walk. The second colon further confirms that by linking *truthfulness with commitment, since these two form a moral pair (e.g., Prov. 3:3; 16:6; 20:28). The suppliant has walked about or set a course (NJPS) by these, letting them shape that course.
