Large-sample confidence interval estimate of μ

A confidence interval is a range of values believed to include an unknown population parameter. Associated with the interval is a level of confidence (such as 95 percent) that the interval does indeed contain the parameter of interest. The level of confidence gives the success rate of the process that is used to construct the confidence interval.
