5.3 Bridge Inverter

A single-phase, full-bridge inverter employs four semiconductor switches. A bridge inverter with four IGBT’s for photovoltaic applications is shown in Fig.5.2 followed by the power circuit. The control circuit is not included. The control circuit provides the control signals and these can be produced by electronic or microcontroller circuits.

The operation of the circuit is very simple. Only two switches are turned on at a time. When S1 and S2 are turned on, the current flows from the positive terminal of the battery to the load via S1 and back to the battery via S2 (Fig.5.4a).
