Multiple Non-Primary Relationship
A polyfidelity relationship requires a great amount of time and effort. So what about individuals who cannot offer these? This is where multiple non-primary relationships come in. Individuals are free to engage in an intimate sexual relationship without the constraints associated with a primary set-up. The lovers see each other when they can. This is a viable option for individuals whose lifestyles are too busy to accommodate a primary relationship. The participants may even be married to other people who consent to the idea of them forming extramarital relationships. An open marriage refers to any kind of marriage structure where couples are permitted to have external sexual relations.
Solo poly refers to a polyamorous approach where a single individual does not seek couple-centric relationships. Instead, he/she employs autonomy in selecting lovers without having to ask someone for permission. He/she has freedom to control the flexibility of the relationships.
Friends with benefits (FWB) pertain to relationships where two or more individuals form a bond of friendship and then engage in sexual activity. However, they do not develop any romantic feelings for each other. They also limit their expectations of each other.
The drawback to this relationship model is when one of the non-primary partners begins wanting more. An example is when one retires or when one’s husband/wife suddenly dies. They may suddenly find more time in their hands and begin seeking a primary relationship.
