70. RHUBARB. Cut out rhubarb flower spikes if they start to issue forth from the middle of leafy crowns. Although beautiful in a champagne-spray kind of way, their production will weaken the plant and diminish subsequent crops.

71. Hand weed close in and around the rhubarb crowns so as not to damage them.

72. HORSERADISH. Hand weed.

73. ASPARAGUS. Do not cut any spears on crowns less than two years old. Cut no more than a couple of spears per two-year-old asparagus plant.

74. Water generously if rain is scarce. Better to let a hose soak the ground directly than fixing a spray attachment.
