Bill, Steve and I had a ceremonial stomping then burning of Johnny Arnold’s CDs. Together, we had wasted a helluva lot of money on the prick.

Bill said, “I never liked him that much anyway.”

Steve put his arm around his shoulders as we watched the pieces melt in the grill.

I said, “Maybe I am bad.”

And maybe I was. What was I doing? Was it sinful to lust so much? It’s a deadly sin, lust. Bad, bad stuff. But then again, why did God put so many people on Earth? Did He expect us not to notice them? Not to want them? Didn’t He give us our own minds? Weren’t we entitled to our own opinions? Weren’t we allowed to recognize our own desires? As long as we weren’t hurting anyone else what did it really matter?

Steve put his other arm around me and drew me in close to him. “Yeah, you are bad. And it feels good, right?

It did. It felt damn good.

“Don’t let that bastard get to you. Who is he to be preaching about morals anyway? He’s in the music industry for God’s sake.”

I said, “I wonder if he would have had such a strong reaction if I told him I chopped people up for fun instead of just fucking around.”

Bill and Steve roared with laughter.

“But it’s true,” I continued. “Which is the worst sin? Lust or killing? With killing, I mean, you’re killing people. Making them die. With lust you’re just exchanging feelings and wants and desires.”

And that’s all it was. Right? Right. Ah, fuck stupid Johnny Arnold and the horse he rode in on. What the hell did he know about anything anyway? And who cares?
