By the time Isabella got home from the flower shop, it was already dark. After surveying the renovations on the bar most the day, it put her behind in her work. Christina was getting too big and uncomfortable to stay at the shop long and was turning out to be more of a hindrance than a help lately. She’d taken Christina back to the cabin earlier, and then returned to the flower shop to finish up some last minute business.

She pulled up to the cabin feeling hungry and tired. All she wanted was a quick meal and then a good night’s rest. She spotted Nate’s car parked there and cursed under her breath. She’d almost forgotten she told him he could move in. She really wasn’t looking forward to this tonight and didn’t want to deal with it, but had no choice.

She grabbed her purse and made her way to the cabin, walking in to hear laugher coming from the kitchen. She slowly closed the door, her senses going wild with the tantalizing aroma of garlic and spices floating in the air.

“Hello?” she called out as she took off her coat and hung it up. “I’m home.”

“Mom, we’re in here,” came Christina’s voice from the kitchen.

Isabella put down her purse and made her way to the kitchen to find Nate dishing out food onto plates. The table was set and there was one of the bouquets of flowers that were used at the church for their wedding on the center of the table. The smell of food intermixed with the scent of lilies and daisies made a very pleasant and homey atmosphere.

“What’s all this about?” she asked, stopping in the center of the room.

“You’re just in time for dinner,” said Nate. He put down the pot and pulled out a chair. “Here you go.”

“Why . . . thank you.” She wasn’t used to a man treating her this way, and rather liked it.

“Nate made dinner,” said Christina. “And he brought the flowers over from the church that were used for your wedding. There is another bouquet in the front room and one in your bedroom too. Nate had another one for my room, but I told him the smell of flowers while I slept might be too much since I’m still sensitive to smells during this pregnancy.”

“You really didn’t have to do this,” she told him, looking down at the plate of food. He’d remembered she was vegetarian, and made a meatless dish of spaghetti with tomato sauce for her.

“We all have to eat,” said Nate. “I got here before you so figured I’d start the dinner. Christina helped, so it wasn’t all that hard.”

“Try it Mom,” said Christina digging into her food. “Nate made sure to make your food without the meatballs.”

“Thank you.” She tasted it and let out a moan of delight. Nate was seating himself and stopped and looked over to her with bedroom eyes. She figured she’d better stop moaning or he might come up with another idea since they now shared the same house.
