In 2015, I was gifted a Christmas present -- a soda machine that contained a carbonated water attachment to perhaps save me a little money on soft drinks. Knowing that plants crave carbon, I had a bright idea -- I used carbonated water on the paper towels instead of tap water. Most of the seeds germinated within a 24-hour to 36-hour time period. In researching the results, I learned that the use of carbonated water can often produce bigger plants with quicker growth. Therefore, at times, I began using a sprinkler can to water plants in the gardens with carbonated water.

As an added experiment, I had in previous years attempted to plant black-eyed peas in the early spring only to have the seeds rot prior to germination. They apparently required warmer weather for the germination to begin, which was not happening in early spring. In hotter weather they do splendidly.
