Richard Taylor and his Weta team were the group that really made it all happen, All the designs that came from Alan [Lee], John [Howe] and Grant [Major], if they involved weapons or armor ... anything at all, got channeled into Richard’s department. He ran a huge operation in an incredibly smooth way. If we wanted 100 archers, we’d have no doubt they’d be there with all the support and backup they required. Just giving the filmmakers a bunch of swords ... wasn’t really the limit of Richard’s job. He also had to provide technicians on set who could dress these people and make running repairs. When someone’s sword broke during a take, there’d always be a Weta technician there with tools ready to go.... I can’t imagine anyone else in the world being able to pull it off as well as Richard did.34
