PIMOs devise their exit strategy based on different variables. Some PIMOs are resigned to the fact that they will be shunned, but build their foxhole before they leave: they save money, arrange to live with “worldly” family, or build a support network of some sort. Other PIMOs, sadly, wait until a devout aging parent passes away. There are PIMOs who are financially independent—perhaps with a supportive spouse and family of their own—who still hold out hope that their family of origin will wake up before they take any decisive action.
