If you speak, do it softly and in a monotone. Talking (I do it a lot) reassures some animals that you are not a predator, because predators use stealth. However, if the animals are in an area where they have been hunted or harassed before, it may be better not to talk at all.
Control Your Scent. Approach animals from downwind if possible, and don’t wear perfume or aftershave. Most animals have a far superior sense of smell, compared to humans.
