1. Find two pieces of wood to use as the anchor and the trigger. On one end of the anchor, carve a spear point; on the other, cut a notch. Pound the spear end firmly into the ground. Cut a notch into the trigger piece of wood that corresponds to the anchor notch so that it can hook into the anchor notch while positioned upright.

2. Make an overhand knot snare as described for the basic snare, then attach the end of the snare to the top end of the trigger. Tie the rest of the cordage to a nearby sapling, bending the sapling over to create tension, and then hook the notch of the trigger into the notch of the anchor.

3. Lay out the snare loop, using another piece of wood if needed, to set the trap. Be sure that the cordage is firmly tied off to both the trigger and the sapling so that it will support the weight of the game you catch in the trap.
