This makes a suitable point in the ritual to pause and consider ways in which to make life a little more orderly and harmonious during the coming day. Alexandre Moret (1902) described the next stage as being the dressing or draping of the sacred statue with four rolls of material and the decorating of its eyes with green and black cosmetics. This may not be practical, depending on the size of the statue and the type of material it is made from. If it is unworkable, other steps can be taken. As a practical suggestion, clothe the statue in at least one piece of material kept solely for this purpose. If you are using an icon or picture rather than a statue, the material could be laid across the top of the frame. If it is inappropriate to use the kinds of cosmetics described, try two tiny dots of colour on the pupils of the statue – the practice of painting in the pupils of holy statues to bring them to life is found in many cultures around the world. With a picture, these dots could be placed on the glass of the frame if you are worried about damaging the image with regular adding and removing of face paint.

Moret does not note it, but this would be a suitable point in the procedure to call the words of awakening, which is the meaning of the word nehesi.

Nehesi Sobek [or name of the relevant Netjer]!

Nehesi em hotep!

Nehesi nefer.

Nehesi, nehesi, nehesi!
