Metals

We’ll finish this section on colours by looking at how to paint metals. So far I’ve shown different approaches for doing so, from armour to cannons (for example, a wash was used for Jon Snow’s chainmail and a patina for the Thirty Years War gun). All these techniques are valid for every type of armour, and patinas are especially useful as this gives an appearance of dirt or rust. However, this chapter focuses on metallic finishes in their own right.

STEP BY STEP

To demonstrate painting metals I decided to use a Warlord Games Early Imperial Roman centurion (Figures 195-196). As always we’ll glue it to an empty bottle and prime it in black before doing anything else.
