Somewhere around this time I purchased my first art book by Portland artist Dory Kanter. While the title of Art Escapes intrigued me and the exercises inside were fun and informative, I was even more blown away by the discovery that there was, in this world, a job that involved traveling to beautiful locations around the world with other creative people and helping them along on their creative paths.

I remember so clearly thinking, Sign me up! and running inside to Marco, bug-eyed, pointing at the book and yelling “This is what I’m going to do!”

I then remember turning the book over to see who the publisher was. I saw the words North Light for the first time and heard the whisper inside: “One day you could write a book for North Light Books …”
