Hour after hour Svante walks around, surrounded by hordes of tourists from all corners of the earth. Young, elderly, poor, rich: people from all sorts of backgrounds saunter around the Tower of London in the late autumn sun and post countless global selfies on all conceivable media platforms. A whiff of burnt almonds and diesel fuel from the passing sightseeing boats mixes with the too-warm November air.

Some of the tourists are so old that they don’t have the energy to keep walking. Others hop along on crutches. American families with small children console their newborn infants.

A woman from Australia leads her obviously senile husband around and points out the skating rink by the curtain wall, where some Brazilian tourists wearing Santa hats are staggering around the ice in the perfect 18°C skating conditions.
