Chapter fourteen

Dean hasn’t been in the house all day. I wonder how he’s feeling about the whole incident from last night. Personally, it was a dream come true. I got to watch him completely unravel for me. The look on his face while he touched himself watching River and me was something I’ll never forget. Thinking about it now is honestly getting me all worked up.

I wonder if Dean is embarrassed? He shouldn’t be, if anything, he should be ashamed of himself for not joining. Being squished between River and Dean is a new fantasy that I can’t shake.

Needing some connection to Dean, I decide to go to his room. Maybe, more like snooping in his room, but it’s not like he locked the door. I sit on the queen bed and grab the bottom of his blanket to take a deep inhale of his scent. It grounds me.

My nosy nature wins as I open his nightstand drawer. The first thing I see shocks me. It’s the earring I lost yesterday. I just assumed it fell out when I was sitting on the couch. Why does Dean have it? I twist the stud in between my fingertips as Dean walks into the room.

He clears his throat and looks at me. “I meant to give that back to you.”

“Sure. Where have you been?” He’s wearing gym shorts and a black t-shirt. He has insanely nice calves, they’re so tight and strong.

“Just went to the gym for a bit.”

“Needed to blow off some steam?” I smirk at him.

“Something like that.”

“Dean, are you embarrassed?”

He comes down and sits on the bed next to me. Not touching me, but he’s close enough I can feel his body heat. His scent is so all consuming after working out, I perfume. The combination of his smoky and pine scent with my cinnamon is luxurious and thick.

His fist clenches the blanket and inhales deeply, and his eyes roll in the back of his head.

“Embarrassed isn’t the word I would use,” he says through his teeth.

“You really should have just joined in, Dean.”

He looks at me incredulously. “I wanted to. I’m trying, Liv. I’m really fucking trying.”

I furrow my eyebrows as I look at him. Our scents are suffocating the room. All I want to do is crawl on top of him and sit in his lap. Rub my body against his and make his scent seep into my pores so I never have to be without him.

My hand goes over the top of his on the bed and he groans.

“Livy, I just can’t. Not right now.”

I feel rejected and confused. “I’m living here, Dean. I’ve signed up with your pack for Heat Haven. I don’t understand.”

“Grayson and River will be there.”

I snatch my hand away and look at him with watery eyes.

“I need you to be safe above all else, Liv,” he says.

“You’re starting to sound like a really annoying broken record, Dean. I hope you come to your senses before it’s too late.” As much as I don’t want to, I get off of his bed and leave his bedroom.
