Greenhorn Mountains Slender Salamander

Greenhorn Mountains Slender Salamanders occur in the southern Sierra Nevada in Kern and Tulare counties, California. They range from the northern Lower Kern River Canyon to the Tule River and Little Kern River drainages, with populations also present on the western margin of the Kern Plateau. Greenhorn Mountains Slender Salamanders are found at relatively high elevations, from 900 to 2440 m above sea level.

Greenhorn Mountains Slender Salamanders are listed currently in California and federally in the U.S. as a Species of Special Concern, even though populations of these salamanders appear to be secure throughout their range. This is because Greenhorn Mountains Slender Salamanders were thought to be the same species as Relictual Slender Salamanders, B. relictus, at the time that species was assessed.
