Height: 12 feet or more, depending upon support
Bloom Time: Late summer
Vigorous, twining vine that can be grown as an effective screening plant on just about any site and on any structure. Insignificant flowers are followed by ornamental yellow and red fruits that attract birds. Both male and female plants are needed to produce fruits.
Please note: When purchasing bittersweet, avoid the extremely invasive Asian bittersweet (C. orbiculatus), which grows rampantly and chokes out other plants, including mature trees (see “Nonnative Invasives,” page 118).
