FIGURE 187 Once inoculated, the logs are laid to rest on a pallet or stacked in shady areas. For drier locations, I recommend covering them with a shade cloth or tarp to buffer against wild fluctuations in humidity.

FIGURE 188 After 6 to 12 months, mycelium can be seen at the ends, showing discolorations, a sure sign that the logs are colonized end to end with mycelium. Note that the mycelia flow inward from the outer surface, where the spawn dowels were inserted.
