Tips and Tricks

Here are a few tips and tricks to keep in mind when practicing performing:

ALWAYS play the way you would in an actual concert. Practice walking into your practice room as if it were the stage. Take a bow and hear the audience clapping.

Make sure you walk confidently with your chest up and your eyes up. (Look down if you need to in order to use the stairs!) Make sure you acknowledge your audience by looking out at them.

Plan what you will do before you start playing: tune your instrument, place your bow on the string, moisten your reed, hear the music in your mind, and place your music on the stand… Whatever it is that you will do before playing that first note, plan it.

At the end of your performance take a bow, even if there is no response from the audience.
