But in the tuning of instruments, particularly the tumbur of Hārāsān, the second string, using the same frets and tuned either on the second, D (Re); the minor third, Eb, (Gab); the fourth, F (Ma); the fifth, G (Pa); or the sixth, A+ (Dha+), according to mode required, gives all the missing notes to form the complete scale (ex. 11).

If we leave aside the modified fifth and octave, which are never used, this brings us back exactly to the Indian division.

We see therefore that, although the Arabs use only limmas and commas to establish their scale, they supplement the lack of the second form of certain flats and sharps by the superposition of several plagal forms. Although this leads to a somewhat different classification, it does not in practice create any difference from the Indian division.
