He knew Monkey would be right back. A minute later Monkey returned. “I don’t have grandchildren,” he said.

Robot nodded.

“When will I have grandchildren?” Monkey asked.

“When you have children,” Robot said, “and when your children have children, then those children will be your grandchildren.”

Monkey closed his eyes and quietly repeated what Robot said. “That’s a really long time,” Monkey said.

“Yes, it is,” Robot said. Monkey sighed.

“This tire might belong to someone,” Robot said.

“Hmm,” Monkey said. “Perhaps we should hang pictures of it all over town, so whoever lost it will know we found it.”

“Good idea,” Robot said.

Robot and Monkey sat at the kitchen table and drew lots of pictures of the tire.

Robot picked up a roll of tape. “Let’s go,” he said.
