Chapter Ten

Dani

I collapsed onto the bank, tired and wet after hours of splashing around the lake. My breath lodged in my throat as Blaze dropped beside me, muscles rippling in naked glory, his shirt hanging from a tree branch to dry.

My eyes raked over his coarse chest, following the lines of tattoos that criss crossed over his torso and around the back. My fingers ached to reach out and feel him, to trace every dip and wave, to learn every secret his body holds. His touch snapped me out of my trance as he drew my hand to his chest. “Your eyes are very expressive.” He chuckled, guiding me to stroke his abs. “You should know I will never, ever, stop you from touching me how you want, when you want.”

Blaze pulled me against him, breath fluttering through my hair as his voice deepened, reverberating all the way to my soul. “If you’re a good girl, I may even return the favor.”

I shuddered as delicious desire coursed through me, prompting me to rake my nails across his gorgeous body, making him hiss in pleasure with me.

“Is that a promise?” I asked, our breath mingling as we lay there drying off in the warm, late-afternoon sun.

“You’d better believe it is. I don’t plan on letting you out of my arms before morning. But…” He pushed himself to his feet, reaching out to help me on mine. “I did say I’d show you all my favorite spots first. And there’s one more place you need to see before dark.” Blaze grinned, eyebrows raising comically as he whistled. “You ready?” I nodded, heart pounding loudly in my ears. Wait. That wasn’t my heart. I turned to see Trigger galloping up, followed closely by Satin, who tossed her head as if to say, well? Are we going?

Blaze boosted me up, and I slipped my heels into the stirrups, adjusting my seat as Blaze took a running leap for the backside of Trigger. “Oof!” He grunted as he overshot, flying over the horse’s head to crumple on the ground.

“Oh my Mone! Blaze, are you ok?” I nudged Satin into gear, hurrying over to where he had landed.

“Me? Why wouldn’t I be?” His voice came from behind me and I spun in my seat, startled to find Blaze sitting casually in his seat, elbow propped on the saddle horn. His face was blank as he watched my face turn from concern, to surprise, to confusion, to irritation.

“You JERK! I thought you had gotten hurt! How dare you make me worry like that?” I nudged Satin back around to his side, giving a light push once I was close enough. Just barely under a shove off the horse, but I figured it would be better for him to not crash land. Although he deserved it.

“Just having a bit of fun. I always enjoy seeing people’s faces when I do something like that.” He smirked. “The shock on their faces. It’s wonderful.” Blaze opened his hand, palm outstretched as blue flames ran along it.
