28 Make your leaves small, narrow, long, short—play around with different combinations in size, switching between your brushes.

CHECK YOUR BRUSH HOLD

Pause here and take a look at how you’re holding your brush. Where is the handle of your brush falling as you paint? Is it resting along your thumb, running almost parallel to your paper? Or is it jutting up, near the knuckle of your forefinger? You have more control when the handle of the brush rests near your thumb. Try adjusting your hold and see if you can make a fuller, more complete PPP stroke with this adjustment.

If the handle of your brush is sitting at too high of an angle in your hand, it’s difficult to engage the full width of the bristles.
