Background Assembly
1. From background strips, piece 3 strips 1″ × 51″, 6 strips 1½″ × 51″, and 2 strips 2″ × 51″.
2. Trim the selvage off the remaining main background strips and coordinating background strips. Orient the strips so that the main fabric is upright and on the left and the coordinating fabric is on the right. Join each remaining main background strip to a coordinating background fabric of the identical width.
3. Roughly following the background assembly diagram, arrange these strips in rows to form the quilt top, staggering them so that the coordinates end at different points. Do not become wedded to the diagram! If your fabrics are different and your rows need to be rearranged to look their best, do not hesitate to do so. FIGURE
