If you want to have very little Hi-Hat on a Snare Drum, don’t let the Snare microphone aim at the Hi-Hat. Try to turn it away as far as possible. This way, you reduce any spill of the Hi-Hat into your Snare Mic. Using an EQ, you can hardly get a Hi-Hat out of the Snare signal without making the Snare sound dull. The same applies to Toms: The mic for the High Tom often aims toward the Snare Drum. You should avoid that. Just try to slightly turn it on the side. Also, the mics for the other Toms are often turned to the Snare. You can improve that so your Noise Gates on the Toms will not open because of Snare Drum hits. Work in accordance with the polar pattern of your mics!
